DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. — Jonathon Severs, 30, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died Wednesday night following a deputy-involved shooting that occurred after authorities said he was involved in an alleged kidnapping, a shooting at a New Cut Road residence, and a vehicle pursuit that ended on Morgantown Road. A woman identified as Tracy Pearce, 37, was later found dead inside Severs’ vehicle.

According to local authorities, the incident began at approximately 4:30 p.m. when dispatchers received a report that Severs intended to load firearms and harm himself. A be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) alert was issued, and deputies conducted a welfare check at the home of Severs’ former girlfriend on New Cut Road. Officials said Pearce initially told deputies that she was safe.

Authorities later reported that Owensboro police officers located Severs’ vehicle on Fourth Street and later on Highway 54. During an attempted welfare check, Severs reportedly refused to communicate with officers, and law enforcement continued monitoring the situation.

Later that evening, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting Severs was inside the New Cut Road residence. Approximately four minutes into the call, dispatchers reportedly heard gunshots while still connected to the caller.

When deputies arrived, they found Pearce’s mother suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her torso and legs. She was transported by air to a Louisville hospital, where officials said she was in stable condition.

Authorities stated that a toddler, a 13-year-old, and a 15-year-old were also inside the residence. Although none of the children were physically injured, investigators said they witnessed their mother being forcibly taken from the home. Officials allege Severs abducted Pearce before fleeing the scene.

At approximately 10 p.m., a deputy located Severs’ vehicle near Country Heights Elementary School on Highway 54, but officers briefly lost sight of it. Around 30 minutes later, deputies located the vehicle again and initiated a pursuit that ended on Morgantown Road.

According to Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman, Severs allegedly rammed a police cruiser before exiting his vehicle while armed with a handgun. Deputies ordered him to surrender, but authorities said he did not comply. Deputies then fired their weapons, fatally striking Severs at the scene.

After the shooting, investigators discovered Tracy Pearce deceased inside Severs’ vehicle. Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the circumstances or cause of her death.

The Kentucky State Police has assumed responsibility for investigating the deputy-involved shooting, as well as the events surrounding the alleged kidnapping, the shooting at the New Cut Road residence, the pursuit, and the fatal confrontation. The four deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which officials described as standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as authorities continue gathering evidence.
