HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — Carl Louie Williams, 32, of Silsbee, Texas, died Thursday morning after a garbage truck veered off Cravy Lane and overturned, fatally injuring him while he was riding on the exterior of the vehicle.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Cravy Lane, just east of FM 418 outside Silsbee. Investigators said Williams was riding on the exterior left side of the garbage truck when the vehicle left the roadway.

Authorities reported that the truck entered a north-side ditch before overturning onto its left side. Williams was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the garbage truck, identified as 31-year-old Keonia Owens of Beaumont, was not injured in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances that caused the truck to leave the roadway. Officials have not released additional information regarding what led to the crash.

Carl Louie Williams’ death has left his family, friends, coworkers, and members of the Silsbee community mourning his loss as they remember his life.
